This holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day offers a nice mini-break from our responsibilities, as we relax and enjoy the holiday celebrations. It’s nice to gather with friends and family, and leave the world behind for a bit, while you reminisce about year that has pasted and make grand plans for the new year about to be. I guess that’s why couples in love are inspired to get engaged. It’s so romantic to pop the question on Christmas Eve, or New Year’s Eve, isn’t it? Then you can launch right into planning the wedding for a summer soiree. Or elope on Valentine’s Day!
Oh but I’m getting ahead of myself (that can happen when I start talking weddings!)….
Getting ready to set the holiday table got us thinking about how beautiful the table looks with all the lovely china plates and serving pieces. When you have a big crowd, it’s nearly impossible to have every piece match, but does that matter, really? Mixing different...read more
It’s not a party without the music. That’s one of our favorite mantras, because no matter the reason, or the size, of your celebration, the fun doesn’t start until there is music in the air. We were so excited to discover Island Exclusive Entertainment, because they...read more
I usually don’t bring world events into this setting, but the shooting in Las Vegas is a tipping point for me. How sad and tragic that one man held so much anger and hatred that he mowed down concert-goers in our national party-town. I pray for the victims and their loved ones that they find peace. It is said that we should be the change we want to see in the world. I want to see more love and kindness, and less judgement of our differences. Starting today, I will work harder in spreading kindness. I hope you will join me.read more
I just noticed that the last Wednesday in September is celebrated as National Women’s Health and Fitness Day. We think that should be every day, but I’m glad that there is a day set aside to highlight this important issue. Women seem to be hardwired to think of others before themselves, and the fairer sex does need a reminder to take care of themselves better. Whether it’s some pampering at a day spa, making time to exercise, or paying attention to your eating habits, dear ladies, please make yourself a priority.
This one reason we launch the Beauty and Wellness Guru directory – to provide a place to find reputable personal services providers, be it hair and nail salons, fitness centers, life coaches and beyond. We would love for you to check it out if you have not already!read more
Greenport’s Maritime Festival weekend is upon us! For North Forkers, this event kicks off, unofficially, harvest season activities, and given that Greenport in particular and the East End in general have a rich history of sea-faring activities, this is very appropriate. The harvest of seafood from our local waters is as much a part of North Fork life as the harvest from our farms. I hope everyone has a chance to join the celebration this weekend and over the next few weeks. It’s a time a experience the East End the way the locals do all year round.
Have you heard about the North Fork Trolley that now offers shuttle loop service on the North Fork? It’s in a test run this season, with service running from 12 noon to 8 pm every Saturday from Sept. 16 until Nov. 8. Here is the solution we have all been awaiting for...read more
We have recovered from Labor Day celebrations, the kids are back in school, and life’s routines start falling into place again. On the East End this week, we are feeling the somber shadow of 9-11 rememberances and concerns for loved ones in the path of Hurricane Irma. However, we know that the clock does keep ticking, and the Harvest Season events are already upon us. The Maritime Festival is coming on September 22 – 24, and then it’s October and pumpkin picking season. Don’t miss any of the fun coming our way on the North Fork and in the Hamptons during the delicious autumn months. Check out our Event Calendar in the Nav Menu!read more
