Now that all the spring holidays with the family are behind us – Easter, Greek Easter and Passover, I recommend building on the celebratory vibe and start enjoying the spring time rebirth that these holidays have come to represent. Even if the thermometer isn’t quite where want it to be, the spring flowers are budding, and blooming in some cases, the baby animals are joining the world, and warmer sunny days are coming very soon! As it turns out National Cheese Fondue Day is this week, and any day is a good day to enjoy some cheese. Pull out your fondue pot, get some skewers, invite over some friends – with a bottle of Long Island wine, of course, and make some memories. There is definitely a way to savor your journey with some ooey gooey cheese and bread on a stick!

And like that January 2018 is in the history books. For a very short month, February has much packed into it — Ground Hog Day, Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine’s Day, Presidents and school vacation. Whew! I’m tired just writing that! The winter is wonderful time to Savor the East End. Valentine’s Day is a wonderfully romantic reason to visit. Check out the fabulous restaurants, do some day spa pampering, and plan a romantic weekend at one of our wonderful B&Bs. And, in the midst of it all is Winterfest, a weeks long music festival hosted at the local wineries…it’s a great reason to visit the North Fork, and scope out the places you plan to return to during the warmer months.

Stop Waiting! Start Chasing your dreams!
The New Year signals new beginnings. From calendars to resolutions, our mindset is one of starting afresh. We have a blank slate if you will…and there is something both comforting and intimidating about that. Comforting knowing that you can put the past behind you – learn from your mistakes and begin again. Intimidating also perhaps because the new year is a blank page, and you are now challenged to fill it with worthwhile pursuits….In 2018, Savor Your Journey and it will be a life well-lived.
This holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day offers a nice mini-break from our responsibilities, as we relax and enjoy the holiday celebrations. It’s nice to gather with friends and family, and leave the world behind for a bit, while you reminisce about year that has pasted and make grand plans for the new year about to be. I guess that’s why couples in love are inspired to get engaged. It’s so romantic to pop the question on Christmas Eve, or New Year’s Eve, isn’t it? Then you can launch right into planning the wedding for a summer soiree. Or elope on Valentine’s Day!
Oh but I’m getting ahead of myself (that can happen when I start talking weddings!)….read more

December is here and Holiday Season 2017 is in full swing! As you wrack your brain and slog through the malls to find the perfect gift for everyone on your gift list, please keep in mind that in the end the most cherished gifts are those that you give of yourself. And, these are the gifts that also give something to you. Sure, the latest and greatest gadget, the trendiest sweater, or the flashiest bauble will impress when they are unwrapped, but I have found that the favorite things of the holidays are those that money can’t buy.read more
We adore flowers. That’s the first thing the Roses & Rice team said when asked to describe their business. One look at their designs, and that is most evident. Apparently, they also adore weddings and celebrations, because their suite of wedding arrangements are...read more
Getting ready to set the holiday table got us thinking about how beautiful the table looks with all the lovely china plates and serving pieces. When you have a big crowd, it’s nearly impossible to have every piece match, but does that matter, really? Mixing different...read more
And just like that (snaps finger), Holiday Season 2017 has begun! It’s very easy to be caught up in the holiday prep and lose sight of the reason for the season. So, here is your reminder, as I write this in the eve of Thanksgiving. Take the time to be in the moment, and enjoy—dare I say SAVOR—the experiences. Let the kids help with the basting as the turkey roasts. Stop for 10 minutes and actually visit with your guests, and please, wait until Friday before you hit the malls for the holiday deals. No discount is worth skipping out on a gathering of your family and friends. You can’t buy those missed memories later.
So, this holiday, when you feel the crush of all the tasks and chores as you ready yourself and your home, remember to make time to Savor the Holidays. Happy Thanksgiving!read more
We blinked, and our brief autumn is now turning into the holiday season! Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday to enjoy on the East End, especially if we get some warm days. Crawl through the wineries and craft breweries for the latest delicious releases. Browse the boutiques and antique shops for one-of-a-kind gifts. Shop the Christmas tree farms for THE tree, beautiful wreaths and other decorations.

Happy November! Now that we have turned the page of the calendar, it seems that the autumn weather has finally arrived. Time for the snuggly sweaters and warm socks! Have you noticed that I have changed the title of this feature? It now better reflects what I hope to say in this opening to the East End Experience. Life is a journey…one that deserves to be enjoyed and savored. Stop and smell the roses, or the pumpkin spice latte, if you prefer. It’s not a race, but if you must treat it so, make it a marathon. Whatever you do – remember to enjoy it! The little things really do matter, so hug your kid, call your mom, pet the dog, and just breeeeaaathe. You will feel better for it, I promise. ~JBMread more
