About Waters Crest Winery
Description
Waters Crest Winery is one of Long Island newest family run wineries, Jim and Linda Waters
started their first production of Waters Crest in 2001 with their Meritage, which has a very limited
release. In 2002 production increased slightly with the addition of Merlot and chardonnay.
Waters Crest Winery is the first winery of its kind in the Long Island region; we are only a winery which makes us unique. We select fruit from several different local growers set consignments early in the season, we select certain blacks in the vineyards we closely manage the crop yields and work very closely with our growers to optimize the highest quality from the fruit. We believe the wine is made in the vineyard and we just add the final touch to complete the wine to perfection.
During harvest time we manage the vineyard daily and monitor its progress to determine the proper pH and acid levels to maximize the highest quality from the fruit, this will help us make our decision when to pick and allow the fruit to fully ripen. We look for fruit loaded with wonderful tannins full body and great depth of color and structure especially in our reds. We select what we feel are the best rows in the fields, ones that receive the best sun exposure and derive maximum ripening. Every detail is personally overseen by Jim Waters, proprietor and wine maker.
Jim had received international acclaim as a home wine maker winning 2 gold medals, 4 silver and 4 bronze, in state competition he has obtained 1 gold, 2 silver, to add to his portfolio.
