About Vineyard 48
Description
Vineyard 48 possesses some of the oldest vines on the North Fork of Long Island. Our exceptional vineyard sites benefit from the North Fork's ideal maritime growing conditions. Meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking allow us to realize the potential of these historic vineyard sites and bring you wines of uncompromising quality and elegance.
At Vineyard 48 the goal is to perfect the old vines to produce new wines with an emphasis on Riesling and Chardonnay before expanding into other varieties. This means optimizing the vineyard's growing condition by hands-on care, from the planting, to the growing, to the harvesting of the grapes. Pruning, cluster thinning, leaf removal and grape picking are all done by hand. This painstaking approach to viticulture has lead to a great start for Vineyard 48s first vintage. The 2004 season had an extremely low yield of 1.5 tons/acre and the grapes were picked at ideal ripeness promising wines with deep concentration balanced by the perfect amount of acidity.
Vineyard 48s well-balanced wines include their fresh and lively white and red table wine; a vibrant Chablis style Chardonnay and a crisp, elegant Sauvignon Blanc; and the winerys flagships, an exuberant, concentrated Riesling and an intense, complex and wonderfully rich Merlot, all of which make perfect companions for a wide range of foods.
